Effects of demographic change on urban structures
Budapest
Tid: 13 - 14 september 2010
Plats: Budapest
Arrangör: EUKN - Gateway to Urban Knowledge
"All over Europe, cities need to cope with the effects of demographic change. Aging and migration have a huge impact on the social, economic and environmental fabric of our cities. We need to act now to prepare ourselves for the rapidly changing future. Some cities have implemented successful strategies. Others still need to find their way.
At the 2010 annual conference the European Urban Knowledge Network (EUKN) brings together all stakeholders for an interactive exchange of views, strategies, experiences and hands-on knowledge. The two-day conference will take place in Budapest on 13 and 14 September 2010. Please note this date in your agenda.
Policy makers, researchers and practitioners at EU, national and local level will present the main challenges and solutions. The different aspects of demographic change, such as aging population, shrinking cities, urban sprawl and their effect on issues as housing, employment, public services and quality of life in cities will be addressed in dynamic workshops. These interactive sessions will help you to discover what works and what does not work in practice. Visits to projects in Budapest and presentations of good practices from all over Europe will give you a deeper insight in concrete instruments which might further strengthen the effectiveness of your own policy initiatives.
The EUKN 2010 conference will feed into the High-level Conference on demographic change which will be organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union.
Details of the conference programme will be published in the next few weeks on
